Siobhan McLaughlin
A native of St. Catharines, Ont., Siobhan attended, rowed and coached at Ridley College before going to UWO as an undergrad where she was a member the Western Mustangs Varsity Women’s crew from 1996-2000. She has completed Level 3 of the National Coaching Certification Program and is close to completing Level 4 as well as being a certified kinesiologist.
Siobhan came to the ORC as head coach in April 2008, from hte position of provincial Executive Director and Head Coach for the Saskatchewan Rowing Association, and chair of Rowing Canada’s Interprovincial Coaches Committee, is the second full-time head coach in the ORC’s 140-year history. She succeeds Lubo Kisiov who left last October after seven years to become Head Coach at the Thames Boat Club in London, England.
Siobhan has already obtained considerable recognition for her research activities. Her innovative work in designing an instrument that measures whether a boat is balanced while being rowed by a crew was featured on the Discovery Channel program Daily Planet -- http://www.exn.ca/dailyplanet/view.asp?date=5/10/2004.
