Adult Rowing League 2012
February 16, 2012
The Adult Rowing League (ARL) takes place on weekday evenings in June (practices) and July (race nights!).
Upon registering to practice on either -Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday nights, you are assigned to a crew and a coach. Let us know when you register if there are others you wish to row with. Practices are held weekly during the month of June (Tuesdays or Wednesdays or Thursdays at 18:00h). Practices will be designed to get you ready for July race nights! They will include dry land and on the water lessons to teach you rowing basics including safety, terminology and proper form.
In July, all crews meet on Thursday evenings (18:00h) for races. There are some 200 rowers at the boathouse! Races are 800m in length, running in front of the boathouse from Parliament Hill to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge. An announcer calls the races, the BBQ is on and the bar is open.
Race nights are all about fun!

ARL – Insight for New Rowers
Experience is not needed – only interest.
Adult Rowing League is a great introduction to the sport of rowing. People come with little to no knowledge of rowing and learn together.
Returning rowers come back each year as better and better rowers. We try to put rowers with similar experience together – this keeps competition fair and fun for everyone.
If you’re new to rowing, a Learn to Row course will give you a head start but is not required. Rowers of all levels and degrees of fitness row with us.
Things to Consider
Come prepared to exercise. Loose fitting clothing can be a problem in the boats; wear snug shorts or tights.
You won’t be rowing all of the time. Bring a layer to keep you warm on the water.
Wearing rings is uncomfortable. We have lockers (no locks), but it’s best to leave your jewelry at home. In a pinch, your coach can carry valuables in the safety boat.
Rowing is thirsty work – don’t forget to bring water.
Weather
Rowing is only fun when it’s safe. If the weather is too rough, we may have to reschedule a session to one of our rain dates or make alternate arrangements.
Don’t guess! Come down to the club as scheduled. If the water is good and you don’t come, you'll miss your practice.
